The Cotaplan team have just put the finishing touches on a brand new sixth-form centre in Seaford, where 160 students will be taught. These dedicated modular college buildings comprise several teaching rooms, including an IT hub and therapy rooms. The school commissioned the centre with Cotaplan to replace the school’s existing facilities, which were beyond economic repair.
Whilst the design was being agreed with the client, our team undertook all the soil, topography, existing services and asbestos surveys. Once planning permission had been granted, we were able to begin work on site.
Project Overview: A New College Facility in Seaford
Following site set-up, the existing building was demolished and the foundations, a series of isolated pads or piers, were constructed. These were prepared with the required drainage points for foul and surface water. This process took around 2- 3 weeks whilst the building was being manufactured offsite.
The building was installed and made watertight within two days allowing follow-on trades to attend and complete the new facility prior to occupation. Modular offsite construction allows both the site and factory to run simultaneously – vastly reducing the construction time.
